Damilola's father to visit school

Damilola Taylor

The father of the stabbed schoolboy Damilola Taylor is to visit a Somerset school ahead of anti-bullying week.

Richard Taylor was invited to Trinity Primary in Radstock by head teacher Pepe Hart when the pair met at the recent Pride of Britain Awards.

Damilola was 10 years old when he was attacked as he walked to his home in Peckham, south east London, in November 2000. His killers were aged 12 and 13.

The school will run workshops next week on "being different, being together".

Damilola's parents Richard and Gloria established the Damilola Taylor Trust to honour their son's memory by working in the community to try to bring about changes for the better.

Mrs Taylor has since died.

Mrs Hart said: "Richard is such an inspiring man. He has experienced the greatest tragedy and loss any parent could ever imagine.

"The good work he carries out with young people in our schools can only help to make the world in which we all live in a better and safer place.

"I am honoured that he has taken the time to come to Trinity as a result of us meeting at the Pride of Britain Awards.

"This is just the beginning of our work together."

Mrs Hart will attend a memorial service in London on 27 November for Damilola, who would have been 19 years old on 7 December.
