Tree in memory of murdered youth

Memorial for Lloyd Fouracre

A tree has been planted in memory of a teenager who was murdered in a street attack in Somerset three years ago.

Lloyd Fouracre, 17, was attacked by a group of drunken youths as he made his way home from a friend's birthday celebrations in Taunton.

Family members and a group of Lloyd's friends gathered to remember him on what would have been his 21st birthday.

Lloyd's brother Adam Fouracre has been leading a campaign against violence since the murder in September 2005.

Mr Fouracre said: "It is a really nice way to remember him because the tree is going to be here for years, so it's a way of keeping him in our memories."

'Not acceptable'

Speaking about what motivates him in his own campaign against violence, he said: "It is to stop other families from having to go through this.

"To stop other families coming down here and planting trees in memory of their dead children.

"It's not acceptable, it's not right. People shouldn't have to go through this and unfortunately we are having to go through this.

"Hopefully by doing the work I'm doing, I can prevent it happening."

Andrew Betty, of Priorswood Road, and Jay Wall, of St David's Close, Taunton, were convicted at Exeter Crown Court of Lloyd's murder and jailed for life in 2006.
