Repaired water pipe springs leak

Water engineers working to fix burst pipe

A repaired burst water pipe in Somerset which affected thousands of customers has sprung a further leak.

The problem at Bristol Water's Cheddar Treatment Works should have been sorted out by 1700 BST but the leak means more work will have to be carried out.

Customers in the Burnham and Brent Knoll areas are asked to continue to be careful over how much water they use.

A spokesman for the company thanked customers for responding to a request to use less water earlier in the day.

"Without their assistance, the reservoirs would have run empty many hours ago, potentially leaving many thousands of properties without water," said the spokesman.

On Thursday evening the Bristol Water spokesman said all supplies were back to normal.
