A children's theatre in Bath has been awarded a grant of £40,000 to develop new arts projects with families, young people and local schools.

The Egg Theatre has received a Grants for the Arts Award which secures their funding until September 2009.

Future plans include "School Frenzy", a performance project held in six schools across the county culminating in public shows at The Egg Theatre.

A study is also planned with families who have never been to the theatre.

'Vote of confidence'

Kate Cross, director of The Egg Theatre, said: "We are very grateful to the Arts Council England South West for demonstrating their faith in The Egg's work and enabling the theatre to go from strength to strength, to thrive and to continue to deliver well-researched, relevant and life-changing opportunities for young people and their families.

"It gives a vote of confidence in The Egg's programming decisions, enabling us to produce our own work in the future and to establish an ongoing relationship and dialogue between live performance and participation."
