Repaired lido is open for summer

An open-air swimming pool, which was forced to close after loose tiles were discovered, has reopened to bathers.

Investigations have been ongoing into the cause of the problem at Shepton Mallet lido in Somerset which underwent a major re-fit in 2006.

A temporary fix has been made to allow the pool to open in time for the school summer holidays.

"We will work during the Winter to repair the pool base with a permanent solution," said councillor Ron Forrest.

"The Shepton lido is a very important community facility in Mendip, and one which we are proud of which is why we have worked hard to ensure people can continue this popular pool this year," said Mr Forrest.

The lido is heated using recycled heat from nearby cider and perry maker Brother's Drinks.

Heat is harnessed and warms the water as it passes through pipes before being returned to the pool.
