University podcasts receive award

A series of public lectures posted on the internet have won an international award for the University of Bath.

A spokesman said the podcasts had been downloaded 188,000 times from more than 50 countries between November 2006 and September 2007.

"This shows how interesting the public lectures of our researchers and others have proved," he added.

The university was presented with the European Excellence award for best podcast in a ceremony in Berlin.

Speakers on the podcasts include General Sir Rupert Smith, who commanded the British Armoured Division in the first Gulf War, and Professor Phil Diamond, director of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics.
