First aiders to bike around city

Four trained volunteers, known as First Responders, will have life-saving equipment on the bikes and will work to support the ambulance service.

There are 150 emergency calls made to the ambulance service every week in Bath.

If successful, the scheme will be implemented in Bristol.

Chris Cooper, from Great Western Ambulance Service, said: "Bath is a challenge to us - particularly at this time of year.

"There are lots of shoppers around and traffic: getting an ambulance to an incident straight away can be hard."

First Responder Steve Brown said it was a chance to give something back to the community.
