Royal start to school's new term

Princess Anne is due to visit the Blue School in Somerset to officially open its science centre later this month.

The science centre in Wells has been developed as part of the school's status as a Specialist Science College.

The Princess Royal will be taken on a tour of the biology, physics and chemistry laboratories.

"She embodies hard-work, commitment and lifelong achievement, skills we are teaching our young people in Wells," said county councillor John Osman.

The project was funded by the Blue School Foundation, Somerset County Council, PTA donations, as well as business and community sponsorship.

Later, the princess will meet the school's leadership team, staff, school council students, governors past and present and representatives from the PTA.

During her visit on 13 September she will also be asked to unveil a plaque, marking the official opening of the science centre.
