Work to shore up quarry to start

Harley Hill

Work to shore up a quarry face which has been the scene of rock falls on to a road is to take place next month.

Up to 100 tonnes of rock fell on to the A458 at Harley Bank, near Much Wenlock, Shropshire, in April. One lane of the road remains closed.

Geologists have been examining the site and said that weaknesses in the rock face were less extensive than feared.

The work, which involves putting up steel netting, starts in mid-August and is expected to last four weeks.

Shropshire County Council said specialist contractors would stabilise the rock face with steel dowels and use steel netting to hold back and contain minor rock falls.
