Rail firm may restore old route

Passengers in Shropshire could soon have access to a second direct rail service to London.

Arriva is consulting over plans for a new twice-daily service between Aberystwyth and London Marylebone, with stops in Shrewsbury and Telford.

The route was scrapped in 1991 but Arriva said research showed there was strong customer demand for the service.

Earlier this year, the county had its direct route to London restored by the Wrexham-Shropshire service to London.
