More surgery for surviving twin

Great Ormond Street Hospital

A baby girl who survived surgery to separate her from her conjoined twin has undergone further surgery.

Doctors operated on Faith Williams on Wednesday to help assist with circulation problems.

A Great Ormond Street Hospital spokesman said she was expected to have more surgery in the weeks ahead.

Faith's sister Hope died after the separation on 2 December. The twins were born to Laura and Aled Williams, of Shrewsbury, on 26 November.

Faith remains in a critical but stable condition, the hospital said.

Wednesday's procedure was to ensure more blood flows through her body and less through her lungs.

Hope died because her lungs were too small to support her breathing, doctors said.

The sisters were joined from the breastbone to the top of the navel and had a shared liver but separate hearts.

Mrs Williams, 18, is thought to be the youngest UK mother of conjoined twins.
