Firm meets residents over mast

Representatives of a mobile phone firm were meeting people unhappy about a mast put up near their homes.

Vodafone was given permission by Telford and Wrekin Council to erect the mast in Malinslee in Telford.

But some residents said they were not consulted properly over the mobile phone mast which was put up in playing fields two weeks ago.

Vodafone said all of its base stations complied with stringent international exposure guidelines.

Legal challenge

Rob Matthews, from the company, said it was recognised there was "significant public concern" about the base station.

Mr Matthews said all of its base stations were built to be compliant with guidelines which have the formal backing of independent bodies such as the World Health Organisation.

However, residents have been looking at ways of getting the mast removed and have been considering challenging the legality of the original planning permission.

The meeting was being held on Wednesday evening.
