County's new logo design chosen

Council logo

Shropshire Council leaders have chosen a logo for the new county authority.

The unitary authority will replace the county council and five district councils from April 2009. Telford will retain its existing authority.

The winning design, chosen from a shortlist of seven, was described by councillors as "distinguishable, contemporary and fresh".

The shortlist had included three designs by schoolchildren in the county.

Councillor Malcolm Pate said: "It was important to choose a logo which showed a new beginning for Shropshire Council, while highlighting the heritage of the county.

"We felt using a traditional coat of arms with a modern look and colour scheme did just that. "
