School shuts despite church bid
A primary school in Shropshire has shut its doors for the last time despite church leaders fighting council chiefs to stop the closure.
The Church of England failed in its final bid to save Childs Ercall Primary School last month.
The Diocese of Lichfield said if the faith school shut, it would limit parents' choices.
However, an independent adjudicator agreed with Shropshire County Council that it was too expensive to run.
Council leaders had also said that falling pupil numbers meant the school was too small to keep open.
From September most of the children will travel to either Hinstock or Tibberton.
The school's head teacher Heather Lane thanked the local community for its support throughout the campaign.
