Agency speaks over college plans

Shrewsbury Sixth Form College

The Highways Agency says it was not told "until the last minute" about plans for two Shrewsbury colleges to occupy the same site.

Shrewsbury Sixth Form College hopes to join Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology at a campus in London Road.

A special meeting due on 20 May to consider the plans will now be in June.

Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council said the postponement was partly because it did not have all the information from the Highways Agency.

But the council admitted there was a delay in consulting with the Highways Agency.

The agency said moving a college to London Road could cause traffic problems for people trying to get onto the A5.
