Flood watches were issued for parts of Shropshire after heavy rain hit the county, with the Ironbridge area being particularly badly affected.
The A458 between Much Wenlock and Bridgnorth was closed because of flooding at Muckley Cross.
Flooding in Wellington disrupted train services between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton in the West Midlands.
Sandbags were being sent out to some flood-hit Shifnal residents after the heavy rain threatened their homes.
Bridgnorth District Council sent the sandbags to Beech Drive and properties close to Wesley Brook as well as other addresses in the town.
Schools closed
Flood watches were issued for the River Teme and its tributaries downstream of Ludlow, the Rivers Tern and Perry and their tributaries and the Rea and Cound brooks.
Woodland Special School in Wem and Brockton C of E Primary School were closed because of the weather.
Shropshire County Council said Broom Hall Lane, in Bomere Heath, near Shrewsbury, had also been closed because of flooding.
People have been advised to check with the Environment Agency about flood warnings and watches in force and the Highways Agency for further information on traffic disruption.
