Couple win jackpot at the races

Chris and Pat Hiles

An Oxfordshire couple received an unexpected wedding anniversary present when they scooped nearly £50,000 at the races after placing a £2 stake.

Pat and Chris Hiles from Witney successfully picked the winners of six televised races at Newbury Racecourse at the weekend.

They are among 20 winners with a chance to win a bonus of more than £600,000.

If their horse wins and no one else has picked the same one, then the Hiles' will pick up the entire bonus fund.

The pair were enjoying celebrating their 39th wedding anniversary in the Racegoers Restaurant in the Grandstand Enclosure on Saturday.

The retired couple intend to spend the money on redecorating their house and on a holiday later in the year.
