Kerbs 'too high' for wheelchairs

A volunteer at a care home in Banbury has been measuring kerbs in the town, after complaints some of them were too high for wheelchair users.

Keith Bristow, who helps at Agnes Court run by Leonard Cheshire Disability, said some of the drop kerbs were very difficult to manoeuvre.

He added that the majority of wheelchairs would stop dead when reaching many of the kerbs.

Oxfordshire County Council said it would investigate the issue.

Keith said: "They put these drop kerbs in, and some of them are horrendous.

"The new ones are quite big, and with legislation that has been in force for some years now, there doesn't seem to be any good excuse as to why the kerbs are so high."

He said a report on his findings would be sent to authorities to investigate.
