Group appeals to keep bridge open

A faith group in Oxford has criticised Oxford County Council for a decision to close the Magdalen Bridge on May Day.

The council has said it is to close the bridge this year, as it has for the past three years, to discourage people jumping from it during the festivities.

However, Penny Faust, from the Council of Faiths, said closing the bridge stopped some people going to the event.

She said: "People in east Oxford who would previously have been part of this celebration can't get there any more."
