£40m roadworks take step forward

A £40m project to replace a viaduct near Oxford has taken a major step forward as a the first part of a temporary bridge is put in place.

A 100-tonne beam is the base of the bridge at Wolvercote that will take traffic from the A34, allowing the main viaduct to be replaced lane-by-lane.

The Highways Agency said the work was currently on schedule but allowances have been made for bad weather.

The temporary bridge will be up in March and work finished in 2010.
