Morris Minor's 60th year marked

Hundreds of enthusiasts have celebrated the 60th birthday of the Morris Minor car in Oxford.

Despite the poor weather, proud Minor owners turned out to honour the vehicle at BMW's Mini plant in Cowley.

The first post-war Minor rolled off the plant's production line in 1948.

There was a procession of 60 models - one for each year of manufacture.

The vehicles then took part in a parade around the city.

Ray Newell, of the Morris Minor Owners Club, told BBC News: "It was the star of the 1948 motor show.

"It eclipsed all the other vehicles that were there, and, of course it went on to sell 1.6 million throughout the world."
