Local flooding fears after rain

There has been some minor localised flooding at Swinford Toll Bridge and in Cropredy and Wardington in Oxfordshire.

Several rivers across the county also remain on flood watch, following recent heavy rain and strong winds.

The Met Office issued a severe weather warning for the area earlier in the day but that expired at 1800 GMT.

Travel organisations said motorists should still take extra care on the roads, as driving conditions were treacherous in places.

People have been advised to monitor local news and weather forecasts and also ensure they have mobile phones with them while travelling.

The rivers on flood watch are:

• The River Ray from Shipton Lee to Islip

• The River Thame from Long Marston to Dorchester

• The River Cherwell from Charwelton to Oxford

• The River Evenlode from Moreton-in-Marsh to Cassington

• The River Windrush from Bourton-on-the-Water to Newbridge

A flood watch is issued when there is a danger of flooding on low lying land and roads.
