Two thirds back 20mph limit plan

More than two thirds of people support the idea of introducing 20mph speed limits on most of Oxford's roads.

Out of more than 570 responses to a public consultation the majority backed the plans.

The county council's proposals would cover every road in the city apart from major arterial routes.

If the proposals are given the green light the new limit could come into force next year with current 20mph zones incorporated into the project.

Councillor Ian Hudspeth said: "We now need to go away and examine in detail what people have said to us.

"It seems that the majority of people are in favour of what we have proposed. However we have received a lot of comments and we will analyse and consider whether we need to modify detail in places."
