River flood watches kept in place

Longworth Avenue, Tilehurst - taken by Caroline O' Connell

Flood watches have remained in place on a number of rivers across Oxfordshire after storms swept across Britain.

The Environment Agency has kept in force flood watches on the rivers Ray, Cherwell and the River Thame from Long Marston to Dorchester-on-Thames.

But flood watches on the rivers Evenlode and the Windrush were lifted on Monday.

Further rain was forecasted for the area on Tuesday although the heaviest showers were expected elsewhere.

BBC Meteorologist Susan Powell said heavy rain could potentially cause further flooding in Northern Ireland, south-west Scotland, north-west England, south-west England and Wales.
