Bird flu control zones are lifted

Control zones in and around an outbreak of bird flu in Oxfordshire have been lifted.

More than 25,000 chickens were culled after the outbreak of the H7 strain at Eastwood Farm, near Banbury, on 3 June.

A Defra report concluded there was no evidence of the disease spreading and that it may have originated from a low-level strain already at the site.

The restricted areas included a 1.8-mile (3km) protection zone and a 6.2-mile (10km) surveillance zone.

Officials from the UK briefed the European Commission's committee on animal health 10 days ago and vets agreed to lift the zones subjected to further tests.
