Locals warned over card skimmer

Card skimming devices (courtesy of Thames Valley Police) Potential card fraud victims are being urged to check their bank accounts after a skimming device was found on a cash machine in an Oxfordshire town.

Thames Valley Police said it was found on the NatWest machine on Banbury Road in Summertown on Tuesday night.

They are urging anyone who has used the machine recently to cancel their cards.

Card skimming devices are used to copy debit and credit card details and film the person entering their PIN number. The data is then used to clone it.

Det Con John Knight, from the intelligence bureau, said: "Unfortunately, these devices are getting more and more sophisticated and can be difficult to spot.

"We believe that the vast majority are being operated by organised crime gangs with much of the money being siphoned out of the country."

Tuesday's card skimming device is the tenth discovered in Oxfordshire since February.
