A 55-year-old man has died after his car crashed into a lamppost in Nottinghamshire, police said.

The accident happened on Fackley Road, between Coppywood Close and Carnarvon Street, in Teversal at 0615 BST.

A police spokesman said the vehicle, a Toyota Celica, left the road and went on to a grass verge before crashing into the lamppost.

The victim was taken to King's Mill Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have appealed for witnesses.
