Nottingham stadium

The design for a new stadium planned as the centrepiece of Nottingham's bid to host World Cup events in 2018 has been unveiled in the city.

The design, by architect Benoy envisages the development in the Holme Pierrepont/Gamston area.

Fans would be able to make use of camp sites in the area.

The scheme was revealed as inspectors from the Football Association visited the city to assess the sites and hear about planned facilities.

Nottingham residents were being urged to wear green to back the city's World Cup bid as the delegates toured the city on Thursday.

Nottingham is one of 15 cities seeking to be part of the Football Association's drive to host the tournament in England in 2018.

The campaign's green branding plays up the links with Robin Hood, Brian Clough's famous sweater, and also plans for a new "green" stadium.

Residents were also being encouraged to display "I'm backing the bid" stickers with the aim of making a big impression as the the FA visitors arrived.

The city's bid will be based on its football heritage and the facilities it can offer.
