Work has started to transform part of Nottingham city centre into a summer beach resort.
From Thursday, about 300 tonnes of sand will start to arrive in the city's Old Market Square to create the "Nottingham Riviera" - which opens on 22 July.
The Riviera will include beach cafes, fairground rides, a boardwalk and stalls selling buckets and spades.
Organisers say the six-week project will be the largest city centre holiday beach in the UK.
'Great adventure'
Councillor Dave Trimble, Nottingham City Council's portfolio holder for Culture, Leisure and Communities, said: "This is a fantastic way to give everyone the chance to enjoy the seaside and it doesn't have to cost a penny.
"There will be loads of fun for all the family with lots of activities for children and plenty to enjoy for residents, for people coming into the city to work and for visitors and tourists."
There will be a programme of free entertainment throughout the six weeks - including Punch and Judy shows and music events.
Edward Mellors of the Mellors Group which is providing the attraction along with with the city council, said: "We are hoping for a long, hot summer and to bring a touch of the Riviera to the Old Market Square will be amazing.
"As a Nottingham family we are very proud to be part of this and we want it to be a great adventure for everyone in the city."
The square was turned into a smaller beach for three summers in the early 1990s.
