Police quiz pupils about 'attack'

Jack Waterhouse

A team of detectives is interviewing the classmates of a 14-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries in an incident at a school in Mansfield.

Science teacher Peter Harvey, 49, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after pupil Jack Waterhouse was injured and two other pupils hurt.

Jack is said to have improved slightly and is stable after the incident at All Saints' Roman Catholic School.

Police said the alleged incident took place at the school on Wednesday.

A team of officers has been talking to pupils from the school in Broomhill Lane, since Thursday.

Det Supt Adrian Pearson, who is leading the investigation, said a weapon was used and there were a "number of witnesses".

Mr Harvey is being held in police custody.

Detectives have been granted extra time, until 2015 BST on Friday, in which to question him.

Jack was initially taken to King's Mill Hospital but was transferred to Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham, where his condition was described as serious but stable on Friday morning.

Jack's family released a photograph of him through Nottinghamshire Police and asked for their privacy to be respected.

All Saints' School, which opened in 1974, has 1,170 pupils, including a sixth form of 200, and a teaching staff of more than 70.

The school, a specialist performing arts college since 2002, describes itself on its website as, "a lively, Catholic comprehensive school with a very special, warm ethos which is recognised by all who visit".
