Robin Hood attraction shuts down

One of Nottinghamshire's main Robin Hood attractions is being forced to close due to a fall in visitors.

The Tales of Robin Hood is going into voluntary liquidation on 6 February with the loss of about 50 jobs.

A week of crisis talks failed to find a new financial backer for the Nottingham attraction which hosts banquets and displays on Robin Hood.

Chief executive Iain Walker said he hoped it could be run as a charity with the help of the city council.

Gloomy day

He said: "The company will go into voluntary liquidation on 6 February but there is no reason why all the assets can't be bought out of the liquidation.

"It is a gloomy day for me and all the staff involved," Mr Walker said.

"I am afraid Nottingham does not have the volume of attractions for people to come and see. We need to hang onto what we have got in the city."

Directors of the company met accountants to try to rescue the firm, but failed.

The Tales of Robin Hood is the only attraction in Nottingham dedicated to the world-famous folk hero and it brings an estimated £2m to the city each year.
