Fire evacuees urged to stay away

Bulwell fire

Fire officials are advising residents who live close to the scene of a fire at a Nottingham business park not to return home overnight.

The fire at No 1 Skip Hire at Belgrave Industrial Unit in Bulwell damaged 75% of the facility.

A 49-year-old worker suffered burns in the fire. A police cordon will remain in place until Thursday.

Council officials were helping residents on Sankey Drive and Hambling Close to find alternate accommodation.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it is not being treated as suspicious.

A fire official said several gas cylinders were involved in the fire and a cooling-down period was needed to ensure they did not explode.

Crews from four stations responded to the emergency and about 120 workers and residents from 20 households were evacuated.

Greasley Street and Sellers Wood Drive were cordoned off for safety reasons.
