A Nottingham man who posed as a pub doorman before stabbing a man who refused to pay entry has been jailed for nine years for wounding.
Martin Bent, 32, of Nottingham Road, Sherwood, stabbed Anthony Hay, 41, of Nottingham in the stomach on 20 January, 2008.
Nottingham Crown Court heard that Mr Hay almost died from his injuries and is still "terrified" of going out.
Bent was found guilty of wounding with intent after a trial in December.
The court heard that Mr Hay and his friends wanted to go into the pub and Bent asked them for entrance money.
Horrific injuries
Mr Hay was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where he underwent emergency surgery.
Judge Jonathan Teare said: "The use of weapons on our city streets nowadays has become commonplace, the carrying of them is almost a badge of honour.
"You used that weapon to inflict horrific injuries and you must pay for that."
Nottinghamshire Police Det Sgt Jim Adam said: "It was a horrific attack on Mr Hay who suffered a near-fatal stab wound when he was out celebrating a friend's birthday.
"As a consequence, he can't use a kitchen knife at home or even be in the kitchen when his wife is preparing a meal with a knife."
