Two people die in road collision

A man and a woman have died following a car crash on a Nottinghamshire road.

Officers were called to Main Street in Costock, at about 1020 GMT, where they found a Vauxhall Astra had been in collision with a Peugeot 306.

The driver of the Peugeot suffered serious injuries at the scene. A female passenger was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) but later died.

It is believed the couple was from Leicestershire. Any witnesses are asked to contact police.

The woman driving the Astra was also taken to the QMC for treatment.

Main Street was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene.
