A teenager had a lucky escape when a tumble-dryer caught fire causing a severe blaze at a house in Nottinghamshire.
Crews were called to the property in Perlethorpe Drive, Gedling at about 2345 GMT on Monday.
A fire official said it was thought the dryer caught fire, destroying the kitchen and causing severe smoke damage to the rest of the house.
The 19-year-old girl raised the alarm after hearing an explosion.
Tim Haige, of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, said: "She heard a small explosion from the kitchen which was lucky as there were no fire alarms.
"The kitchen has been completely destroyed and the rest of the house is very smoke-logged.
"She was looking after the house while her parents were on holiday, they've been told what's happened and they're on now their way home".
