Trains tampered with at sidings

Police in Nottinghamshire say people who tampered with trains in sidings in two recent incidents could have been seriously injured.

Pc Michael Harper from British Transport Police said a brake was released on a railway wagon at Welbeck Colliery Junction three weeks ago.

Last week, a brake was released on a wagon at Thoresby Colliery Sidings which rolled forward and then derailed.

Pc Harper urged anyone with information to contact the police.

"Although nobody was injured, both these incidents had the potential to cause very serious injuries," said Pc Harper.

"Both these locations are relatively isolated but there is still a significant chance that people may know who is responsible for these offences."
