Police in Nottinghamshire have said they are surprised at the number of drivers and passengers who have been caught not wearing a seatbelt.
An operation to enforce seatbelt and mobile phone laws began on Monday and since then 350 have been pulled over and fined.
Officers said the numbers were especially high considering the checks were made at just 12 locations.
They warned the initiative would be stepped up in the coming days.
Chf Insp Andy Charlton said the initial results had made them determined to continue.
"We knew we would find people flouting the law, but to find so many on just 12 roads when there are hundreds of roads - it just needs to be added up.
"We need to be very hard, very firm on this issue because clearly the messages about 'please wear your belt, its common sense, it is good practice' just haven't been getting through."
The police have carried out checks in Worksop, Mansfield and Nottingham and said they would move to new locations next week.
