Man in court after street death

A man has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of a Nottingham man in a "senseless attack".

Shaun Lobb, 40, from Carlton, died in hospital nine days after being assaulted in Netherfield last October, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

Scott Hatherley, 19, of Denstone Road, St Ann's, denies the charge.

Craig MacGregor, 18, of no fixed address and Liam Perry, also 18, and from Pinewood Gardens, Clifton, have both already admitted manslaughter.

Brain injuries

The jury heard how Mr Lobb, a self-employed painter and decorator, had been walking home along Victoria Road in Netherfield on the night of 10 October.

MacGregor, high on drink and drugs at the time, shouted abuse at him from a car window.

The court heard that Mr Lobb flicked his fingers at him, after which MacGregor got out of the car and punched the father-of-one in the head.

Mr Hatherley, who was riding his BMX bike along the road, joined in the attack before Mr Lobb managed to escape, the jury was told.

The victim was then punched in the face by Perry, who was also riding a BMX.

The blow knocked Mr Lobb to the ground, where he hit his head on the pavement.

MacGregor then kicked and stamped on him, the jury heard.

Steve Coupland, prosecuting Mr Hatherley, said: "Mr Lobb was killed as part of a senseless attack.

"He was left with severe brain injuries and sadly died nine days later."

The case continues.
