East Midlands Trains is to use the funds to refurbish stations and its current fleet which operates in Notts, Derbys, Leics, Lincs and South Yorks.
The firm is also improving CCTV on trains. A new control centre is being set up in Derby to improve communications with Network Rail.
Staff have also been issued with atomic watches to improve punctuality.
Managing Director, Tim Shoveller said: "Although our punctuality is already good - in terms of the national measures that are in place - we want to achieve more.
"This programme of major investment is a key part of this and will no doubt improve our punctuality."
The firm runs high speed services from the East Midlands to London St Pancras.
