Lorry drivers warned about thefts

Lorry drivers in Nottinghamshire are being urged to avoid parking on the A1 after a spate of thefts.

In the past two months, thieves have stolen the contents of a number of lorries while parked on lay-bys.

They have also stolen fuel from lorries by draining their fuel tanks, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The majority of the offences have been committed overnight as thieves targeted the lorries whilst the drivers were asleep in the cabins.

A particular hotspot has been between the Blyth and Markham Moor roundabouts and the A1 lay-by near Ranby.

Police are blaming the looming festive season for increasing the market for stolen goods.
