The roof of the Nottingham City Transport depot was badly damaged in the storm, a safety officer said.

NCT employee Anthony Powell said: "It was a helluva storm - it just about blew us off our feet. I heard such a crack as a big gust of wind hit the roof and it sort of blew it off.

"We escaped into the bus so it didn't land on us."

The Met Office reported a series of tornados and high winds across England on Monday.
