Man loses tribunal over pony tail

Chris Emerson A Nottingham man who was turned down for a job because he refused to cut his pony tail off has lost his claim for sexual discrimination.

Chris Emerson, 21, took Zeda Limited, a technology company based near Ruddington, to an industrial tribunal.

He accused the firm of sexual discrimination after he was offered a job on the condition he cut his hair.

The tribunal ruled on Wednesday that the company had a right to set a different dress code for both sexes.

Mr Emerson, who scored 100% in the company's aptitude test, said: "I think it's become more common place that males have long hair in the work place.

"It wasn't in the past but it is now and I think companies should change their policies to reflect this."

The firm successfully argued that they required a conventional and business-like appearance from both male and female workers.
