Public inquiry into A1 proposals
A public inquiry is being launched into the Highways Agency's plans to improve the A1 in Nottinghamshire by altering one of its junctions.
The move was prompted after 85 objections were made against the plans - mainly by villagers from Elkesley.
Many residents said they are concerned about the timing of the proposed works at the Markham Moor junction and increased traffic flow.
The inquiry, held at Elkesley Village Hall, is expected to last five days.
The Highways Agency wants to remove the existing roundabout at the Markham Moor junction and build a new road to take traffic over the A1.
Two new roundabouts would be made on either side of the current junction connecting the A57 and B1164.
