A man accused of killing his newlywed daughter has died before his trial following a long-term hunger strike, the Home Office has confirmed.
Terry Rodgers, 57, faced murder charges after his daughter Chanel Taylor, 23, was found shot dead in July 2004 at the Nottinghamshire home they shared.
He was admitted to a psychiatric unit after refusing to eat in early 2005.
A lawyer for Rodgers, of Huthwaite, told a court last year his client had one desire, "sadly that is to die".
Rodgers had admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, but was due to face trial for murder on 6 March.
He died in Lincoln County Hospital on Saturday night, police said.
The record-breaking manhunt
He had been refusing food on and off since Christmas Eve 2004.
A Prison Service spokeswoman said officers were powerless to prevent any prisoner refusing medical intervention as long as they were deemed mentally fit.
She said: "A prisoner would be assessed on their mental capacity and if they were deemed to have mental capacity they are entitled to refuse medical interventions."
Mrs Taylor was found dead on 30 July at the home she shared with her husband Lee and Mr Rodgers.
Her father, who was originally from South Normanton in Derbyshire, had moved in with the couple following the break-up of his marriage.
Mr and Mrs Taylor had married just seven weeks earlier and her father gave her away.
'Sad for family'
Terence Keetley, councillor for Huthwaite where Mrs Taylor lived with her husband, said: "This latest development is sad for the family of Chanel, who was taken from them so tragically."
Rodgers, who last appeared in court in October, was arrested in August 2004 after the biggest manhunt ever conducted in Nottinghamshire.
He was found after a search of Park Forest, part of Sherwood Forest.
An inquest was opened and adjourned in September 2004 into Mrs Taylor's death.
