Mansfield magistrates, who originally fined Wendy Childs from Mansfield £50 for dropping a lit cigarette, increased the fine to £150, with £90 costs.
Christopher Jones, also from Mansfield, was fined £190 plus £90 costs for dumping household waste at a car park.
A torn-up copy of his original £50 fine was later found at the same site.
Zero tolerance
Mr Jones' original offence was notified to the council's litter enforcement officer, Terry Farrelly, by a member of the public.
The litter was quickly traced to Mr Jones, because the household rubbish he dumped contained letters, postcards and other items which included Mr Jones' name and address.
Councillor Eddie Smith, portfolio holder for environment at Mansfield District Council, welcomed the magistrates hard-line approach.
"It backs up our zero-tolerance approach to people, who continue to drag our district down by dropping litter or dumping rubbish," he said.
More than 50 people have received £50 fixed penalty notices for littering or fly-tipping in the Mansfield District since August 2003.
