The inventor of the wind up radio Trevor Baylis is to be presented with an Honorary Doctorate.
Former stuntman Mr Baylis OBE will be among five people honoured by Northampton University this summer.
Honorary Doctorates will also go to former health minister Lady Julia Cumberlege, Lord Chief Justice Judge and businessman Don Page.
John Castle, former chairman of the university's governing council, will receive an Honorary Fellowship.
Mr Baylis came to prominence for inventing the Freeplay wind up radio in the early 1990s.
A company was set up in Cape Town employing disabled workers to manufacture the radio and, in 1996, the invention went on to win a BBC Design Award.
Mr Page, is chief executive of the Marval Group, which is involved in IT service management.
