Fire closes M1 in both directions

A stretch of the M1 in Northamptonshire has been closed in both directions because of a car fire.

The lanes were closed at the request of the fire service after a fire in a 4x4 car, fuelled by Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), in the southbound carriageway.

The M1 is closed between junctions 16 and 17 in both directions. The vehicle is on the carriageway between junction 16 and the Watford Gap services.

Police said it is not known at present how long the road will be closed for.
