More time given to quiz teenagers

Police have been granted more time to question four teenagers, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an assault on a 65-year-old man.

The victim was attacked in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, on Thursday.

He is in a critical but stable condition at a hospital in Oxford after surgery for injuries to his skull.

The teenagers, one aged 16, two aged 17 and one aged 19, were arrested on Friday and Saturday. Magistrates extended the time for questioning.

Police said the 40-year-old, arrested on Friday, had now been released on police bail.

The 65-year-old man was assaulted after an argument over possible damage to his car.

Police said officers had a good response from the public to appeals for witnesses.
