Response to sex attack TV appeal

E-fit of the Wellingborough attacker

Police investigating a sex attack on a 13-year-old girl in a Northamptonshire town have new leads to follow up after an appeal on BBC Crimewatch.

The girl was attacked at about 1800 GMT on 28 August as she was using play equipment at John Lea Park, Doddington Road, Wellingborough.

In a bid to identify the attacker, officers have released an e-fit of a suspect on Crimewatch on Wednesday.

There were eight calls from members of the public to the studio.

Further calls have been made directly to the Northamptonshire Police control room.

'Aid inquiry'

Det Con Alan Fisermanis, who is leading the investigation, said: "We received a number of calls from the public during the evening after the appeal was broadcast.

"We will now be working through the information we have received to see if it can aid our investigation.

"I would like to thank those people who have contacted us and would urge anyone else who thinks they may know who this man is to contact us immediately."

The man is described as white, aged in his mid-20s to mid-40s, with short spiky black hair and a greying goatee beard.

He is slim, with yellowing teeth and described as being short for a man.

He wore a long-sleeved light blue top and black trousers and was carrying a black folder.
