Residents' views sought on care

People in Northamptonshire are being asked their views on the future of social care in the county.

Northamptonshire County Council is inviting people to its adult social care and health scrutiny committee on 3 September for their views on policies.

All care providers and voluntary agencies working in the care sector have also been asked to attend.

Issues to be discussed include whether care should be the same for everyone or whether it should depend on need.

Another key theme to be debated is the issue of what the balance of responsibility for social care should be between the family, the individual and the government.

Committee chairman Jonathan West said: "It is clear that the current system of providing care, not just in Northamptonshire but across the country, will need to change if adequate support is to be provided for those in need."

The meeting will be held in the council chamber at County Hall from 1000 BST.

People are also being invited to send their views to the council by Tuesday 2 September.
